Technology - Half Yearly Market Update 2017

2017 was off to a slow start in Q1 in the Technology sector as most candidates preferred to wait for their bonuses; however, hiring activities began to rise in Q2 as there was an increased amount of positions in the market including Head of IT, application development, project management - especially within agile methodologies, and data analytics.

As more companies move to cloud, there was an increase in demand for Cloud Architects. The continuing rise of ecommerce saw an increase in demand for positions such as UX, UI, and web technologies such as Java.

As businesses drive productivity and move to a leaner operating model, we saw a decrease in operational IT positions as many IT departments undergo transformation phases.  While most companies preferred to hire Thai locals, Thailand could not provide enough candidates and companies had to source talent from other parts of the SEA region.

We expect hiring activities within the Technology space to remain consistent in the second half of the year.
