Head of Sales, North Asia
Reporting to: APAC Sales Director
Location: Taiwan
ROLE OVERVIEW
Our client is a global consumer goods organisation with a strong international footprint and a diversified portfolio across household, personal care, and consumer health categories. Operating across more than 100 markets, the company partners closely with distributors to drive sustainable growth and brand leadership.
The Head of Sales, North Asia is responsible for delivering double-digit sales and profit growth across North Asian markets through effective distributor management, new market development, and strong cross-functional collaboration. This role has full commercial ownership of the region, including sales strategy, P&L management, and market expansion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Distributor & Market Management
- Develop and execute country-level strategies and rolling 3-year plans, including commercial, marketing, and new product initiatives.
- Lead Joint Business Planning (JBP) with distributors and conduct structured monthly and quarterly performance reviews.
- Define and track KPIs using evaluation frameworks to assess distributor effectiveness and market performance.
- Motivate, challenge, and support distributors to maximise sales growth and profitability.
- Identify, evaluate, and appoint new distribution partners in greenfield or under-penetrated markets.
- Manage distributor transitions and business transfers as required.
- Set and manage pricing in collaboration with Finance.
- Recommend and oversee new brand and SKU launches, working closely with regional and international marketing teams.
Business Development
- Drive new business opportunities by identifying high-potential markets and best-in-class distribution partners.
- Maximise the performance of the global brand portfolio across the region.
- Monitor in-market sales, inventory levels, and distributor sell-in/sell-out performance to ensure budget delivery.
- Analyse brand and category performance to identify levers for profitable growth.
Marketing & Brand Execution
- Co-develop and implement annual marketing plans and activity calendars with APAC Marketing and distributors.
- Ensure alignment with global brand strategy and positioning in collaboration with international and local brand teams.
- Coordinate planning timelines across distributors and internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with internal processes.
- Ensure effective execution of promotional activities and NPD launches in line with P&L objectives.
- Oversee funded marketing activities with clear ROI KPIs, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.
- Provide proactive market intelligence and insights to regional and global stakeholders.
Financial Management
- Full ownership of regional P&L, including marketing and trade investment.
- Prepare timely and accurate sales forecasts and profit projections by territory, distributor, and brand.
- Develop annual sales and A&P budgets with quarterly reviews for senior management approval.
- Monitor profitability and report monthly performance against sales and margin targets.
- Allocate, manage, and control marketing budgets in compliance with finance policies and governance standards.
Demand Planning & Logistics
- Input monthly demand forecasts, including forward-looking projections.
- Liaise with customer service, demand planning, and supply chain teams to ensure timely and accurate order fulfilment.
KEY STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS
- External: Distribution partners across North Asia
- Internal: Marketing, Finance, Regulatory, Demand Planning, Supply Chain, and Regional Leadership Teams
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in FMCG and/or Consumer Health sectors.
- Proven track record of building and scaling businesses across international markets.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Sales, Marketing, and/or Key Account Management within FMCG or OTC environments.
- Strong commercial acumen with hands-on experience managing P&L, value chain analysis, and trade ROI.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated success in developing new markets and territories.
- Fluent in English; additional Asian language skills are an advantage.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office and commercial reporting tools.
