The Company
Our client is a global leader in high-growth consumer and professional cordless innovation technologies.
Position Overview
They are seeking a Principal System Administrator
to serve as the lead technical authority for our core enterprise infrastructure. In this role, you will drive the architectural strategy, governance, and hands-on optimization of data centers and enterprise platforms. While the environment is increasingly hybrid, this role focuses on the robust stability of servers, storage, virtualization, and networking.
Candidates with slightly less experience may be considered for a Senior System Administrator title.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Architecture & Strategy
- Design & Roadmap: Own the end-to-end infrastructure blueprint, including on-premises compute, storage, virtualization, and disaster recovery.
- Innovation: Scout and implement emerging technologies to boost system performance and operational efficiency.
- Standards & Governance: Define global hardening standards, naming conventions, and security baselines in partnership with Compliance and Audit teams.
Platform Engineering & Operations
- Expert Administration: Act as the final escalation point for Windows/Linux environments, VMware/Hyper-V clusters, and enterprise SAN/NAS storage.
- Identity & Directory Services: Manage complex Active Directory, ADFS, and identity federation ecosystems.
- Resiliency: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents and oversee lifecycle management, including capacity planning and sophisticated backup/DR testing.
Automation & Modern Practices
- Scripting: Eliminate manual toil by driving automation via PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Integrate tools like Ansible or Terraform to ensure environment consistency.
- Emerging Tech (AI/LLM): Support the infrastructure needs for AI-driven initiatives, including GPU server allocation and high-performance storage for LLM workloads.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Technical Mentorship: Coach senior staff and set the bar for technical excellence across the infrastructure team.
- Advisory: Participate in Change Advisory Boards (CAB) to assess risk and ensure system resilience.
Candidate Requirements
Background & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 10+ years in infrastructure engineering/system administration, with significant experience in a lead or principal capacity.
- Track Record: Demonstrated success managing large-scale, high-availability enterprise environments.
Core Technical Skills
- Systems: Expert-level Windows Server and/or Linux (RHEL) administration.
- Virtualization/Storage: Advanced proficiency in VMware vSphere/Hyper-V and enterprise-grade backup/recovery solutions.
- Networking/Identity: Deep understanding of DNS, DHCP, PKI, Group Policy, and fundamental networking (firewalls, load balancing, VPNs).
- Security: Strong grasp of infrastructure hardening and vulnerability remediation.
