Solutions Architect – Transaction Banking (Contract)

Company / Role Overview

This role sits within a global technology architecture function supporting a large-scale corporate and transaction banking platform within a leading financial services organisation. The team provides strategic technology direction to ensure alignment between business objectives, enterprise architecture standards, and long-term platform roadmaps. Operating across multiple regions, the role offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of initiatives across payments and transaction services, working closely with both business and technology stakeholders in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own end-to-end solution architectures that align business objectives with enterprise architecture principles, technology standards, and approved platform strategies.
• Translate business requirements into clear architectural intent, including system landscapes, integrations, interfaces, and operating environments, while embedding non-functional requirements.
• Partner closely with business leaders, product owners, engineering teams, and external vendors to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and scalable.
• Rapidly shape high-level architectures that evolve as requirements mature, ensuring designs remain modular, flexible, and future-proof.
• Support delivery teams by clarifying architectural decisions, resolving design constraints, and proposing solution options during implementation.
• Conduct architecture and design reviews to ensure solutions meet standards for security, performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and usability.
• Work with product leadership to plan and prioritise architecture runway and technology-focused backlog items.
• Promote shared services, reuse, automation, and a culture of continuous improvement across products, processes, and tools.

Job Requirements

Core must-haves:

• 10+ years of experience within banking or financial services technology environments.
• Strong hands-on experience in solution and/or enterprise architecture roles.
• Proven track record delivering solutions across the full SDLC, including Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
• Broad technical expertise across financial applications, middleware, databases, and distributed systems.
• Ability to interpret complex business needs and translate them into clear, actionable architectural designs.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).

Nice-to-have:

• Domain knowledge in one or more transaction banking areas such as payments, liquidity management, receivables, trade finance, or commercial cards.
• Experience driving shared services strategies, automation initiatives, and common solution frameworks.
• Exposure to performance-driven delivery environments with a strong continuous improvement mindset.
